Growing up isn’t easy. Kids and teens today face pressure from every direction: school, friends, family, the internet, and their own developing emotions.

At Healthy Mindset Mental Health Counseling, we provide a safe and supportive space for young people to work through their challenges, develop emotional resilience, and learn healthy ways to cope with what life throws at them.

We meet each child or teen exactly where they are. No judgment. No pressure. Just thoughtful, age-appropriate support to help them grow into the healthiest version of themselves

Working With Children (Ages 5–12)

When kids are struggling, it doesn’t always come out in words. It might show up as meltdowns, outbursts, withdrawal, clinginess, or sometimes, just a general sense that something’s off.

We help kids who are dealing with issues such as anxiety, trouble sleeping, mood swings, behavioral challenges, difficulty focusing, or adjustment to changes at home. We also see kids who are adjusting to diagnoses like ADHD, Autism or ODD, or who just need some support navigating everyday life

Sessions are flexible and hands-on. We might use games, art, movement, or stories to help kids explore what they’re feeling and learn how to cope. Every child is different, and we shape things around what makes sense for them.

We also talk with caregivers regularly, because the best progress happens when home and therapy are working together.

Mental Health Counseling for Adolescents

Teenagers don’t always want to talk, and that’s understandable. Therapy with teens is not about prying or pushing. It’s about building trust and offering a space where they don’t have to perform or explain themselves to someone who “just doesn’t get it.”

Sessions might look like conversation, practicing mindfulness, skills-based work, or just giving them room to vent and feel understood. The pace is theirs. The path is collaborative.

Teen therapy focuses on creating a space where they feel heard and respected, without being pushed or lectured. We understand that trust takes time, and we work patiently to build a connection that feels safe and supportive.

Common reasons teens come to therapy include:

  • Conflict with parents or siblings
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or trauma recovery
  • Substance use
  • Emotional dysregulation or anger
  • Anxiety or panic
  • Depression or lack of motivation
  • School or academic stress
  • Identity exploration (including gender, sexuality, or cultural identity)
  • Social struggles or isolation

Support for Children and Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum

We also support children and adolescents on the spectrum. That might mean working on social skills, emotional regulation, or processing the world in a way that feels more manageable.

We don’t try to “change” who they are. We work with how they think, feel, and communicate, using visuals, play, conversation, or structure, depending on the individual.

Therapy might help them feel more confident at school, less overwhelmed by transitions, or more able to connect with others. For younger kids, we use a mix of sensory-friendly tools and imagery-based strategies. For older clients, we go at their pace, focusing on real-life goals and emotional support.

Therapy That Adjusts As They Grow

There’s no one way to be a kid or a teen, and there’s definitely no one-size-fits-all therapy approach. That’s why we stay flexible. Some days are about big feelings. Other days, it’s about small wins.

We show up for your child as they are: messy, quiet, loud, silly, shy, sad, energetic, whatever. Our job isn’t to fix them. It’s to support them as they figure things out.
